Update on the Ben Roethlisberger situation: The NFL has reduced his 6 game suspension to 4 games. Let’s get this straight: Mike Vick gets suspended and goes to jail for killing dogs, and Big Ben can have multiple allegations of rape and not only gets away with it without any charges or jail time, but also gets his suspension reduced by 2 games.
Way to set the example Roger Goodell.
So is Roethlisbgerger a rapist? I don’t know personally, but I would suspect that where there is smoke – there is usually fire. Of course he is trying to appeal his 6 game suspension from the league, he apparently wants it knocked from a 6 game suspension to a 4 game suspension, but he doesn’t deserve it and the league shouldn’t allow it. I like Big Ben as a football player, but as a role model and person, he’s no better than Michael Vick. You simply can’t keep putting yourself in the situations he puts himself in and expect no one to notice, especially when you’re a 2 time Super Bowl champion and quarterback of the Pittsburg Steelers.
However regardless of what I think, Terry Bradshaw, one of the guys who defined the quarterback position, is dead on when he says that Big Ben’s punishment should stand. Did Terry ever put himself in situations where he was accused of rape multiple times? Did Marino or Joe Montana? Exactly. The league in general should make a huge statement and make him sit out the full 6 games. It might knock Pittsburgh out of the playoffs next year, but maybe that is street justice, and that’s good enough for me.
